David Reid was born in Belfast, and obtained his B.Sc. (botany) and Ph.D (plant physiology) at Queen’s University there. He immigrated to Canada in 1968 when he was offered an assistant professorship at the University of Calgary, where he spent his career. He sat on many provincial and federal committees dealing with the environment, agriculture and science funding, and ran for the Green Party of Alberta in 2015. Now an Emeritus Professor, his interests are the environment, gardening, hiking, skiing, poetry writing and painting.
